NEIGHBORWORKS® GREATER MANCHESTER

BECOMES NEW NAME FOR

MANCHESTER NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSING SERVICES

New name reflects the organization’s growing area of housing development

Manchester, NH Manchester Neighborhood Housing Services announced the adoption of its new public name, NeighborWorks® Greater Manchester, during the organization’s Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 19, 2006, at the Derryfield Country Club in Manchester. More than 125 guests gathered to hear a recap of activities of the previous year and learn about priorities for the coming one.

Manchester Neighborhood Housing Services was incorporated in 1992 to address the neighborhood development issues that plagued Manchester’s Center City area. The organization expanded in 2000 to address housing and neighborhood development needs throughout the City of Manchester, while also expanding homeownership lending services to a state-wide basis. As the affordable housing gap has widened throughout the southern New Hampshire area, organization leadership felt strongly that the need for affordable housing in the state’s largest metropolitan area must be approached from a regional perspective.

“The decision to change our public name and begin to develop affordable housing opportunities in the Greater Manchester region has been a deliberate process, with much planning and discussion,” stated Robert Tourigny, executive director of NeighborWorks® Greater Manchester.

“The City of Manchester will remain a focus of our efforts to bring about affordable housing and strong neighborhoods, but we will also begin to address the tremendous housing issues that face communities adjacent to Manchester,” continued Tourigny. “Our new name also highlights our membership in the NeighborWorks® network, a national network of organizations like ours that work to provide housing opportunities and improve communities. We look forward to continuing our work with existing partners and working with new partners to expand our impact.”

As part of the change in name, NeighborWorks® Greater Manchester revealed its new logo and collateral materials, as well as a new website, which is www.nwgreatermanchester.org.
